Sound Velocity : SV Plus v2
Sound Velocity : SV Plus v2 : Description Updated in mid-2004, the SV Plus was originally launched in 1996 and is the industry standard for sound velocity measurement. It is used extensively by such well known organizations as Kongsberg, Fugro, and multiple divisions of the U.S. and U.K. militaries.
The instrument provides time-of-flight sound velocity measurements using invar rods. The SV Plus is a complete, ready-to-operate package, and includes an aluminum shipping case, 2m data / power pigtail, batteries, a sensor protection cage, a dummy plug, a maintenance kit, manuals and software.
In this configuration, the SV Plus is configured to maximize its ability to identify and map thermoclines, useful in anti-submarine warfare (ASW). The pressure sensor accuracy is 0.05% and can be upgraded to 0.01%FS. The sampling rate has been increased to 25Hz. A USB connector for high-speed data download is also included.
As a standard, the instrument includes Applied Microsystems hi-tech composite sound velocity sensor. This new approach to sound velocity sensor utilizes composite materials instead of stainless steel invar rods. Path-length change due to corrosion and vibration is eliminated, resulting in longer calibrations and less maintenance. Response to temperature change is immediate, assisting in thermocline mapping. Sensor range extends to 1600 m/s. On titanium or Delrin instruments, zincs are not required.
Like all Pluses, the SV Plus is designed for modularity. Upon request, as many as 8 other sensors can be added to the instrument in plug and play fashion. These same plug-and-play sensors are compatible with other Applied Microsystems Plus and Micro instruments.

Path-length change due to corrosion and vibration is eliminated, resulting in longer calibrations and less maintenance. Zincs are not required.
Moreover, sensor length is only 3cm, resulting in increased ease of integration. Path-length variation due to temperature change is immediate, enabling more precise mapping of thermoclines
Like all AML sound velocity instruments, the Micro SV receives over 700 individual calibration points. Calibrations are not extrapolated to cover the entire operating range of the instrument. This distinction is important. Instruments with extrapolated calibrations may find themselves significantly out of spec at individual sound velocity speeds, while the instrument - as a whole - meets averaged accuracy requirements. |
