CTD - Conductivity Temperature Depth : CTD Plus
CTD - Conductivity Temperature Depth : CTD Plus : Description Updated in mid-2004, the CTD Plus was originally launched in 1992 and has seen extensive use in varying conditions and applications around the globe. The instrument is a rugged, intelligent CTD designed for precision measurements of conductivity, temperature and depth. It is delivered ready-to-use, and includes an aluminum shipping case, 2m data / power pigtail, batteries, a sensor protection cage, a dummy plug, a maintenance kit, manuals and software.
In this configuration, the CTD Plus is a rugged, intelligent CTD designed for precision measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll A. The dissolved oxygen sensor - located externally to the CTD for ease of maintenance and replacement - has rapid response times to assist in profiling. The fluorometer is alo placed externally to the primary instrument. A suspension bar, mounting brackets, interconnect cables and dummy plugs are included in this configuration.
The pressure sensor accuracy is 0.05% and can be upgraded to 0.01%FS. The sampling rate has been increased to 25Hz. The aluminium housing provides strength and protection from knocks and shocks.
Like all Pluses, the new CTD Plus is designed for modularity. Any remote sensor purchased for use with the new Plus can be used with other Applied Microsystems Plus or Micro instruments. For example, a dissolved oxygen sensor originally purchased for vertical profiling use with a CTD Plus can be easily connected to an externally powered Micro CTD and deployed on AUVs, ROVs, or other platforms. Moreover, In the new Plus, remote sensors are no longer assigned to specific connectors on the instrument end-cap. Any analog (or digital or TTL) sensor can be plugged into any analog (or digital or TTL) connector, greatly simplifying field maintenance. The new Plus comes standard with USB download capability to accelerate access to data once the instrument has been removed from water. Access to the USB port is via a removable threaded cap, which will expose

| Name: | Conductivity | | Manufacturer: | Applied Microsystems | | Type: | Conductive | Model: | n/a | | Accuracy: | 0.01 mS/cm; 0.005 mS/cm precision | | Range: | 0 - 7 S/m or 0 - 70 mS/cm | | Response Time: | 25ms @ 1m/s | | Max. Frequency: | 25Hz | | Maximum Depth(m): | 6000m | | Resolution: | 0.0015 mS/cm | | Stability | n/a | | Location: | n/a | | Notes: | The Applied Microsystems conductivity sensor is short, with a length of just under 3 cm. Sensor length plays a critical role in determining resistance to the introduction of new flows into the sensor cavity, and hence response times. The equation for response time is as follows:
Response Time = (0.85 * Length of Sensor ) / Flow Speed.
Using the above, our conductivity sensor has a response time of 25 milliseconds in a 1.0 m/second flow environment and 255 milliseconds in a 0.1 m/second flow environment. Given the above, no pumps or flow tubes are required. |
