CTD - Conductivity Temperature Depth : Micro CTD

CTD - Conductivity Temperature Depth : Micro CTD : Description

The Micro CTD is a small, high performance and flexible CTD. With rapid response times on conductivity (25 milliseconds at 1 m/s flow), temperature and pressure sensors, salinity spiking is minimized without relying on pumps or other moving parts. In this configuration, the Micro CTD comes with two additional sensors: the D&A OBS3 and the Seapoint Rhodamine Fluorometer. The CTD can be either self-powered or powered externally; similarly it can log data or communicate it in real-time to the surface via RS232. The unit comes with mounting brackets, a suspension bar, and interconnect cables between the additional sensors and the CTD. One single, consolidated data stream is provided.

Notes:The Applied Microsystems conductivity sensor is short, with a length of just under 3 cm. Sensor length plays a critical role in determining resistance to the introduction of new flows into the sensor cavity, and hence response times. The equation for response time is as follows:

Response Time = (0.85 * Length of Sensor ) / Flow Speed.

Using the above, our conductivity sensor has a response time of 25 milliseconds in a 1.0 m/second flow environment and 255 milliseconds in a 0.1 m/second flow environment. Given the above, no pumps or flow tubes are required.
