Applied
Microsystems is pleased to announce that Viatec
– the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre
- has chosen Applied Microsystems' Spill-Sentry
TM oil-on-water detection system as ‘Product of
the Year' for 2004.
The
award, sponsored by IDC Canada, recognizes an
organization that has achieved outstanding success
in the commercialization of an innovative new
technology.
Spill-Sentry™
offers 24-hour, real-time detection of oil-on-water.
The system provides 100% reliable hydrocarbon
monitoring in rough weather or night conditions,
when traditional visual inspection techniques
are ineffective. Earlier – and more reliable –
detection of oil spills or leaks enables rapid
slick containment and reduced clean-up costs.
Notes
Applied Microsystems' CEO Danford Bodrug: “ Spill-Sentry™
is a win-win. Earlier detection means reduced
environmental impact. At the same time, the technology
enables corporate decision-makers to save on annual
clean-up budgets.”
Spill-Sentry™
has been deployed in a wide variety of spill-prevention
and intake-protection applications in North America,
South America, Australia, Europe and Asia.
Moreover, demand for Spill-Sentry™ has resulted
in the development of a follow-on technology,
Leak-Sentry. Leak-Sentry detects emulsified and
dissolved hydrocarbons underwater, and is ideal
for long-term monitoring of underwater pipelines.
Located
in Sidney, B.C., Applied Microsystems produces
sensors and systems for detection and measurement
in water. Originally established in 1974, the
company serves the oceanographic and marine environmental
communities and has brought to market such innovations
as the world's first time-of-flight sound velocity
sensor and the only underwater mass spectrometer.
