Applied
Microsystems Ltd. (AML) is pleased to announce
the sale of one underwater mass spectrometer -
the In-Spectr - to the Alfred Wegener Institut
for Polar and Marine Research.
The Bremerhaven, Germany based institute focuses
on four areas of research: climate systems, pelagic
ecosystems, benthic ecosystems and geosystems.
The Alfred Wegener Institut intends to use the
instrument for methane studies in both freshwater
and saltwater environments.
The In-Spectr is the only commercially available
underwater mass spectrometer in the world. The
instrument detects and measures chemical species
with a m/z (mass to charge) ratio of under 200,
often to parts per billion thresholds. Sample
cycle time is a question of seconds. The In-Spectr
system currently functions at
depths of up to 200 meters.
Applied Microsystems manufactures sensors and
systems for in-situ, real-time detection and measurement
in water. Located in Sidney, Canada the company
holds an exclusive license to commercialize the
In-Spectr, a technology originally designed by
the University of South Florida.
