Founded in 1974, Applied Microsystems Ltd. has a 34 year track record in the field of oceanographic instrumentation. We supply CTDs and sound velocimeters to military and civilian customers working in the fields of oceanography and hydrography.
What are we known for? Applied Microsystems pioneered the design of the time-of-flight sound velocity sensor. Today, we are the vendor of choice for sound velocity measurement for a wide range of marine survey organizations and manufacturers of multi-beam, single beam, intrusion detection, and positioning systems.
Our second claim to fame is high speed, rapid response time sensors. Like the Micro CTD pictured below, all of our instruments have 25Hz sampling, and our sensors all have response times of under 100 milliseconds. Why is that important? Read our discussion paper on Salinity Spiking and its relationship to sensor response times.

Introducing SV•Xchange™
Launched at OI 2008, SV•Xchange™ is the industry’s only field-swappable sound velocity sensor. Imagine the possibilities! Any SV•Xchange™ sensor can be connected to any Xchange enabled instrument - when you want, where you want - without compromising calibration accuracy.
Field-swappability eliminates the need for entire instruments to be returned for recalibration. Reduced instrument downtime adds convenience and flexibility while the elimination of unnecessary shipping costs reduces the cost-of-ownership. In addition to being field-swappable, SV·Xchange™ is more accurate and more precise than existing sound velocity sensors.
SV·Xchange™ comes standard with SeaCast, AML's new application software that does not require instrument configuration files. Key software features include instrument set-up and configuration, data review, graphing and generation and management of instrument calibration certificates.
